The clothing industry has long been criticized for consuming and polluting water resources, excessive carbon emissions, and selling fur products. Faced with criticism, some fashion companies did not sit idly by. In 2015, an Italian men’s clothing brand launched a series of “Eco Friendly Materials” clothing, which is durable and recyclable. However, these are just the statements of individual companies.
But it is undeniable that the synthetic materials used in the traditional clothing process and the chemical ingredients used in cosmetics are much cheaper than sustainable environmentally friendly materials and are easy to mass produce. Restarting to find alternative environmentally friendly materials, developing new processes, and building new factories, the manpower and material resources required are all additional expenses for the fashion industry under the current production situation. As a merchant, fashion brands will naturally not take the initiative to carry the banner of environmental protection and become the final payer of high costs. Consumers who buy fashion and style also bear the premium brought by environmental protection at the moment of payment. However, consumers are not forced to pay.
In order to make consumers more willing to pay, fashion brands have spared no effort to make “environmental protection” a trend through various marketing methods. Although the fashion industry has vigorously embraced “sustainable” environmental protection actions, the impact on the environment remains to be further observed and the original intention is also questionable. However, the recent “sustainable” environmental protection trend that has swept through major fashion weeks has played a positive role in raising people’s environmental awareness, and at least provided consumers with another environmentally friendly choice.
